Since I’m on the subject of KISS, I figured it would only be appropriate for me to get into my personal feelings on everything with the band.
First of all, when I was about 8 years old, I was sitting in front of the TV, and on VH1, this documentary came on called “When KISS Ruled The World.” Just as I was about to turn, I saw footage of the band performing. I saw blood, fire, makeup, bombs, etc. It changed my life! I sat there and watched. There were interviews, concert clips, stories. I had a great introduction to the band that would become my biggest influence to begin a life in music, especially the guitar playing of Ace Frehley!
After seeing that, I went to the local Hastings store the next day and got my first KISS CD, “Greatest KISS.”
I saved up my money and bought my first guitar a year later. It was a First Act ME301 Stratocaster copy.
I began collecting KISS music, merchandise and memorabilia for years. As a matter of fact, I just recently declared the end of my collecting, due to the attitudes of Paul and Gene towards the band’s legacy.
The reason I mention this is because I have hard feelings towards what Paul and Gene have done with KISS. I’m a real fan. I was a fan before the reality shows. Before the modern Pop Culture burst. I was a fan when they were playing half-empty arenas every night with the current lineup. I stood behind them. I was a walking KISS advertisement for years! The Rock Hall induction was the straw that broke the camel’s back, in my case. To me, they’ve gone too far. All I’m asking for is for them to shake hands with Ace and Peter, and walk away on decent terms. That has yet to happen.
